Next-Generation Research Platforms

Building your own hardware/software R&D platform doesn’t cut it anymore—with our professional plug-and-play systems, you can focus limited resources on solving the grand challenges you strive to overcome, not wasting your time with practical engineering headaches.

Modular, customizable, and constantly expanding, Caplex® can adapt to the needs of any project, in any industry, with any user—in the laboratory, or out in the real world. You are our motivation to constantly improve.

Looking for the full solution? We’ve got you covered! Interested but want to build your own custom end-effectors? That’s great. Like our hardware but want to build your own software? No problem. Intrigued but not seeing what you’re looking for? Let’s talk about custom development.

Systems

We offer three system types: the Full-Sized Caplex® System, our flagship laboratory-based product; the Small-Scale Caplex System, lighter, smaller, and more specialized; the Portable Caplex system, which fits in a backpack form factor; and the Humotech Open Source Leg, a collaborative development with the University of Michigan that functions like a commercial powered leg but is fully customizable.

Caplex® Wearable Devices

Caplex® Wearable Devices are exceptionally lightweight, high-performance, and versatile, thanks to years of careful engineering and their use of off-board actuation and control systems. All of our Wearable Devices are modular to accommodate users with varying body dimensions and range of motion, and interchangeable to streamline experimental protocols and use in multi-investigator environments. Our Wearable Devices are designed to control single joints with one or more degrees of freedom and/or actuation. Multiple devices can be combined to affect multiple joints.

Caplex® Actuator Units & Transmissions

Humotech Actuator Units represent one of the two primary off-board components that make up a Caplex® System. They are now available in four variants: Full-Sized Single-Axis, Full-Sized Multi-Axis, Small-Scale, and Portable. In typical Caplex System setups, these units receive velocity commands over EtherCAT from the Caplex Software via our Control Hardware. All Actuator Units are compatible with the Caplex transmission system, which consists of a Bowden cable that converts motion of the actuator spindle into useful work on a human user, and a specialized electrical cable that transmits sensor signals.

Caplex® Controller & Software

At the core of the Caplex® System is our control hardware and software, suitable for beginners and advanced users alike. We strive for both plug-and-play usability as well as limitless customizability. Our proprietary software architecture and easy-to-use user interface, combined with fully editable controllers, provide the best of both worlds.
