Design — Test — Then Build

With our systems, you can optimize and evaluate your ideas with real users first, then you can leverage the data to build more effective solutions.

Our systems provide you with the freedom to explore, experiment, and innovate with less risk and shorter development time. With our versatile and programmable systems, users experience a broad variety of device mechanics.

With our systems, you can capture the data that you need for your next breakthrough, without costly physical prototyping.

R&D Design Emulation Testing

As research tools, Humotech systems provide a common and easy-to-use platform that lowers the barriers to engaging in rigorous scientific exploration and improves researchers’ ability to replicate and build upon prior work.

As testbeds, Humotech systems provide a starting point for device design so that you don’t need to reinvent the wheel and can focus resources on developing novel control algorithms, clever mechanisms, or whatever your next breakthrough may be.

As emulators to test-drive candidate device designs, Humotech systems enable users to experience the physical sensation of varying device characteristics, while wearing just one.

As a system for product testing, Caplex helps ensure your device meets industry-standard requirements, but can then be expanded upon to do much more.

From Complex to Caplex

A complete Caplex system contains one or more wearable devices, one or more actuators, tethers, and a control system. Caplex is designed for use with different kinds of wearable devices. We offer a range of prostheses and exoskeletons; or you can choose to use an end-effector of your own design. You can learn more about all of our product types here.

  • Light, powerful, and fast, thanks to our rigorous engineering and unique approach to tethered off-board actuation and control
  • Customizable and scalable to meet your complex and evolving needs thanks to our modular architecture and responsive, agile, continuous platform development

Full-Sized Caplex System

Data is captured while standing, walking, running, or more on a treadmill, stairmill, or any other surface where the distance between the floorstanding Actuator and Control Units is constant. Motors are extremely powerful, and require high-voltage three-phase power.

Portable Caplex System

A scaled-down version of our Full-Sized system with Actuator, Control, and Power Units all contained within a backpack-sized enclosure that can be used with or without treadmill, enabling you to take your research outside of the lab. The off-board components can be body-worn or placed on a benchtop, and can run on standard wall power or a battery pack.

Supporting the Open Source Community

Answering the call for a lower-cost open source platform, as well as the need for a system with on-board actuation and control, we’ve partnered with the University of Michigan to bring you a Humotech-supported version of the Open Source Leg (OSL v2).

The OSL contains everything you’d expect from a robotically controlled prosthetic ankle-knee system: onboard electric servomotors control knee and ankle joints, available in separate modules in a package that is lightweight, high-performance, and totally open for your customizations.
